Last night, Juan Manuel Márquez did the unthinkable by the world (not by me of course) and knocked out Manny Pacquiáo putting him to sleep.
In their previous three fights ending in decisions and a draw, this was the fight that ring judges couldn’t score in favor of Pacman as Márquez finally gave this 4-part series of fights a proper ending with a knockout in the 6th.
It was a sold-out event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Vegas to witness history with 50 Cent performing his new no. 1 single “My Life” and even Mitt Romney in attendance to witness fight night boxing. In the first two rounds of this bout, it was all Pacquiáo for the most part dominating landing in a few straight lefts to get the judges favor at 20-18. By the third round, Márquez was finally ready to fight as he knocked Pacman down by the 1:12 mark in the round as the crowd of Manny supporters feared the worst.

With the knockdown and by the 5th round with countless landing some power rights, Márquez would take the lead in scorecards at 48-47. In round 5 we would see Pacquiáo tag up Márquez for a drop of his own bloodying trying to end the fight with a constant slew of punches in the ring corners but Juan would manage to survive the round with Pacman taking the lead back at 57-57 with the knockdown.

In the 6th round, we would see the unthinkable as Márquez’s nose was visibly bleeding (maybe broken) would come out and land some hard rights to start the round. By the 2:59 mark, the fight would end on a counter punch from Márquez tagging Manny’s face with a hard right as he was moving forward with would start the birth of Plankquiáo. Not even Larry Merchant could pick his beloved Manny back up as he was down for the count and FINALLY justice was served the right way with Márquez getting the clean victory.

With this victory, Márquez wins the WBO ‘Champion of the Decade’ belt and the fight we all wanted to see with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not likely to happen anymore. We’re sure this isn’t the last we’re going to see from Pacman but this is definitely not a good look to lose consecutive controversial fights. Enjoy your night boxing faithful and drink responsibly.
