Jay-Z will not only be serving as an adviser and face for the Brooklyn Nets, but he’s also announced today his official sports agency, Roc Nation Sports.
The first client to help launch the brand is none other than New York Yankees second baseman Robison Cano who finally fired everyone’s “favorite” agent Scott Boras. Jiggaman went on to say,
“Because of my love of sports, it was a natural progression to form a company where we can help top athletes in various sports the same way we have been helping artists in the music industry for years,” said Carter.
It’s no secret Jay’s always been involved with sports advising some of his closest friends including LeBron James and now will have hands on experience officially. Cano who’s in the final year of his $57M contract will look to continue his 2012 gold glove year and become the new captain of the New York Yankees with Derek Jeter’s retirement nearing.
“At this point in my career, I am ready to take a more active role in my endeavors both on and off the field,” said Cano. “I am confident that the pairing of Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports will be essential in helping me accomplish my short- and long-term goals. I am making this important decision now so I can keep my focus on helping the Yankees succeed in 2013, while minimizing any distractions for me and my teammates.”
We expect Cano to re-up with the New York Yankees for a max-deal (obviously), as we could see more major sporting figures looking to align themselves with Jay and Juan for representation purposes.
