After using Beyoncé and J. Cole’s blueprint over the last two years with surprise album releases,
Drake shocked the world last Friday with his digital iTunes release, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. The project marks the Tornoto rapper-singer’s fourth consecutive debut at atop of the charts, which is expected to now sell more than over 500,00 in its opening week – 100,000 more than initial targets.
With the exception of Taylor Swift’s 1989 album, which sold 1.287 million copies, Drizzy’s latest effort captures the second-largest sales week for an album in the past year. To coincide with the success of digital sales, he also helped Spotify garner its highest traffic ever in 24 hours, as the project racked in 17.3 million streams in three days. This now tops his Nothing Was The Same LP, which held the previous record at 15.8 million.
